Eagle River Trout Lodge - Labrador, Canada
Eagle River Trout Lodge - Labrador, Canada

Labrador, located in the northeast corner of Canada, is a wilderness fly fishers' dream – Eagle River Trout Lodge. Hundreds of miles of undisturbed lakes and rivers exist here, and extremely limited access translates into some of the most pristine surroundings to be found anywhere in the world.

The remote headwaters of world-renowned Eagle River, lying about 60 air miles to the south of Goose Bay, contain some of the finest fishing for Brook Trout and Northern Pike to be found in Canada.

Originally built in 1968, Eagle River Fishing Lodge has been rebuilt on the site of the old fishing camp and upgraded to contain all modern amenities. Anglers will enjoy the remoteness of a Canadian fishing trip while enjoying the warmth of a comfortable facility “in the middle of nowhere”.

Accessible only by floatplane, Eagle River fishing lodge has been hosting fly fishermen for more than three decades, and careful resource management has ensured that the fishing today is as good as or better than it was three decades ago.

Accommodations:

Renovations to the fishing lodge include accommodations for 12 guests in six modern double-occupancy (non-smoking) bedrooms, each equipped with private shower, toilet and sink. Entry through our "mud room" allows anglers to leave waders, vests, and equipment in a secure area where wet clothes can dry out and fishing gear is safely stored.

Hearty home cooked meals are prepared by our locally trained cooks and served in the main fishing lodge's Dining Room. The two-story, double "A" frame main building has a common area for dining and socializing on the main floor. A second lounge upstairs is our designated smoking area where one can relax with an after-dinner drink, or tie flies on the lodge's fly tying bench in preparation for the next day's adventure.

In the evening relax around our old fashioned wood stove. Recount the day's exciting fishing action or plan tomorrow's strategy. For those who enjoy the art of fly-tying at our fly-tying bench and craft some of your best patterns. Eagle Lake Trout Fishing Lodge tries to ensure the maximum comfort for the guest while still retaining the warm atmosphere, comradery and professionalism, which we feel you are looking for in your Canadian fishing adventure.

Fishing:

Some 60 miles to the south of Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada lays the headwaters of the world-renowned Eagle River and our facilities at Eagle River Trout Lodge. Strategically located at a narrow section of the lake, moving water directly in front of the fishing lodge yields huge Eastern brook trout and Northern pike. Angling further a field at inlets and outlets is provided by our sport fishing guides who will transport you in stable Gander River boats, where you may fish from the boats or wade the numerous pools. Eagle Lake forms a considerable portion of the headwaters of the Eagle River. While all of the water in this watershed is of a freestone type, limestone-like slicks are numerous. Within a short distance of the fishing lodge, anglers can fish virtually any type of water they prefer. Brook Trout feed on Stone flies, Mayflies and Caddis which abound and make-up the trout's main diet.

This is paradise for dry fly fishermen.

For the adventuresome angler there are still virgin waters to explore in our sport fishing areas. The same is true at our sister site, Awesome Lake Lodge, where the only species is Eastern brook trout which abound in more than 30 miles of river.

We supply a guide for each two anglers, and have boats and motors for lake fishing and access to the rivers which feed into and exit from Eagle Lake. Eagle Lake has had a minimum of angling pressure for the past decade through retirement of the former owners, and most of these wild fish have never seen an "artificial fly."

Rates:

Commercial air travel is provided daily to a modern airport at Goose Bay. The area is currently served by local carriers Air Labrador and Inter-Provincial Airlines from points within the province, as well as Air Canada. Flight schedules usually change in spring to accommodate increased summer traffic. Other airlines may also include Goose Bay in their routings, please check through a travel agent or contact us for assistance in arranging your flights.

The season runs from the first week of June to the middle of August. Our package is $3395 in U. S. funds including taxes and license fees.

A non-refundable deposit of $1000 US is payable to confirm bookings, with the balance due 60 days prior to the start of your trip. Non-resident angling permits are available at the lodge.
