Hopper Stone Outfitters - Calgary
Hopper Stone Outfitters - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Alberta’s Bow River originates from Bow Lake in Banff National Park. The river flows south through the majestic Rocky Mountains, until it reaches the city of Calgary, then flows further south through Alberta’s Prairies. Bow River species include: Brown Trout, Rainbow Trout, and Rocky mountain whitefish in abundance. Smaller numbers of Bull trout, Westslope Cutthroat trout and Northern Pike also inhabit the river.

Hopper-Stone Outfitters is locally owned and operated in the Calgary area. At Hopper-Stone Outfitters fishing is more than just a sport or a hobby. It’s a lifestyle! We don’t just fish for a living, we literally live to fish. Hopper-Stone operates exclusively on the Bow River so our guides know the water inside and out, and are up to date on current conditions each and everyday. Our guides can put you into trophy size trout not just fishing streamer and nymph patterns, but also on the dry.

Our Guides:

Born and raised in Calgary, part owner/operator Matt Barlow sports an impressive ten seasons of guiding experience for local fly shops. Matt started guiding on the Bow at the age of 16 and has since become a well-known and respected member in Calgary’s fly fishing community. Matt is the unofficial Bow River dry fly master, he’s spent years developing and perfecting techniques that are superior to that of most other Bow River veterans.

Part owner and operator of Hopper-Stone Outfitters, Rich Schurer is set to graduate from the University of Lethbridge this winter with a bachelors degree in business management. Born and raised in Calgary, Rich has several seasons of solid drift boat fishing experience under his belt, and is no stranger to the Bow River. Rich is a devout dry fly fisherman who is well cultured in the art of fishing both grasshopper and stonefly patterns.

Jim Brown was born and raised in Calgary, just like Matt and Rich. He started fishing the Bow around the same time he got his very first drivers license. Jim has over twenty years of Bow River fishing experience. Jim has worked as a professional guide for local fly shops for the last decade, and is a popular choice by many anglers when selecting a guide. Just like everyone else at Hopper-Stone Jim loves to fish dries for big Bow River Browns.

Hopper-Stone Outfitters is fortunate and excited to welcome Sebastien Stewart, A.K.A. " The Wizard" for the 2009 season. Sebastien has 15 years experience guiding on the Bow, and a master dry fly fisherman status giving him his well-deserved nickname. Some of Sebastien’s clients travel from as far as Japan to fish with the magician.

All trips include client pick up and drop off at requested location and fly fishing instruction for beginner anglers.
