Tongariro Lodge is located in expansive grounds on the banks of the legendary Tongariro River on the southern shores of Lake Taupo, New Zealand.

Established in 1982, the Lodge has an excellent reputation for gourmet dining, the finest accommodation, quality outdoor activities; and the very best in trout fishing guides.

The Fishing:

The name New Zealand raises the pulse of trout fishermen and women the world over, and wild rainbow and brown trout have thrived better in the Lake Taupo system than anywhere else in this country. Many trophy trout over 10lbs are landed by Tongariro Lodge guests each year, with an overall average of over 4 lbs.

In an average season 50,000-plus adult rainbow and brown trout migrate up the Tongariro River alone. The Lake Taupo fishery is the only area in New Zealand that remains open to fly fisherman all year. This area truly is a vast fishery that can provide the trout fishing experience of a lifetime year round to the beginner and expert alike.

We run our own rafts, four wheel drive vehicles and boats, and have some of the best back country nymph and dry fly fishing for sighted browns and rainbows to be found anywhere. Our helicopter access options offer truly remarkable fishing, but are by no means necessary.

The Accommodations:

Guest accommodation is separate from the main Lodge. This ensures maximum privacy. Riverside executive chalets range from one to five bedrooms. Each executive chalet has private facilities and its own secluded sunny terrace with views of the Tongariro River, Lake Taupo, or the mountains.

Tongariro Lodge has developed an international reputation for fine food and wine. The Lodge specialises in serving the best of New Zealand game and traditional foods. Breakfast and luncheon are provided at your leisure. Hamper lunches are one of our specialities.

Additional activities:

Tongariro National Park is an all year outdoor playground - right on our doorstep. In 45 minutes you could be off into the mountains for a day's heli-hiking or you could be on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu, an active volcano.

There are five first class golf courses all within 45 minutes of the Lodge or enjoy a leisurely drive around the shore of the lake to the town of Taupo with its many attractions.
