Sweetwater’s Montana Fly Fishing Adventures
For many, Montana is synonymous with fly-fishing. Blessed with miles of rivers, streams, and lakes, Montana offers the angler unrivaled fly-fishing opportunities for wild rainbow, brown, and cutthroat trout. Whether you are floating down the Yellowstone, Boulder, or Stillwater rivers, or simply wading your way up Montana’s famous Depuy’s, Armstrong’s, or Nelson’s spring creeks.
Sweetwater’s Fly-Fish Montana offers a wonderful variety of fishing waters which provide a world-class angling experience for anglers of all skill levels. The Vermillion Ranch, in the heart of Montana’s Yellowstone River valley, is home for Sweetwater’s Montana fishing operation.
The 800 acre Vermillion Ranch is located on the banks of the Yellowstone River and offers a mile of access to wade fishing on the Yellowstone. The ranch has been documented as the place Clark and his men ate their mid day meal in 1806 during the expedition of Lewis and Clark. From the ranch, you can fish the Yellowstone, Boulder, and Stillwater Rivers, the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks, and an endless supply of small mountain streams.
THE HARRISON HOMESTEAD The oldest home in Sweetgrass County, is listed on the National Historic Register and is the headquarters for the Vermillion Ranch. Recently renovated, the Harrison Homestead accommodates six anglers in western elegance and is a wonderfully comfortable and relaxing place to spend a few days fishing in Montana. All meals will be cooked by our company’s professional chef and will be served in the Homestead’s cozy dining room.
LEWIS AND CLARK CABIN This restored cabin has been furnished in a western charm with your comfort in mind and is a perfect vacation setting for a family of up to 5 or a small group of fishing friends who want to do their own thing. The cabin has a large sunny deck and a new extensive screened in porch, which draw you out to the surrounding views of the Crazy and Absaroka Mountains, The Yellowstone River, Sweetgrass Creek and adjacent green meadows, filled with wildlife.
In addition to the outdoor living quarters, there is a clean complete kitchen, comfortable living room with wood burning stove, queen size bedroom and full bath downstairs and 3 twins in a spacious loft with 4 large windows and a sitting area upstairs. A new outdoor grill makes for easy cooking or you can inquire about a hired cook for your week.
For kids, we have fishing and swimming ponds as well as tubes for floating the Yellowstone at your own risk. The swimming pond has a zip line also. Hiking and mountain biking are available out your door as well.
Sweetwater hires guides for whom guiding is a profession, not a summer job. Our guides will make each day on the river a special one filled great lunches served on the banks of the river and great conversation about fishing and life. During your visit, you will fish the famed Yellowstone, the Boulder, the Stillwater, the Paradise Valley Spring Creeks, and, of course, a few secret spots we have discovered over the years.
