Let’s face it; Southern Oregon is a fly fisherman’s paradise. Where else can you go and honestly need rods 0 to 9 weight in traditional single hand rods with a couple of two hand spey rods in your quiver as well? It’s a dream come true.
Darren Roe began guiding full-time in 1984. The company, then known as Darren Roe Guide Service was based in the Grants Pass area. Darren provided guided fishing, waterfowl hunting and big game hunting throughout Southern Oregon. Darren began to operate more and more in the Klamath Basin and decided to relocate his office and home to Klamath Falls in 1995.
The Fishing:
Williamson River
June – October
From the headwaters where the black drake hatch rules to the mouth where the hex is king. Guided trips are available by boat and on the lower stretch of the river and walk in on the upper regions. (no fishing allowed from a floating device on upper stretches. Size of fish in this region are bigger than the norm. They are quite possibly the largest native Rainbow Trout in the lower 48 states. We typically catch a trout between 3-7 pounds every day! Fifteen to 30 fish over 10 pounds are caught each season with the largest fly caught trout to date measuring 38 1/2 inches!! This is a trophy wild trout fishery, not a numbers game so if large wild rainbows are your passion, let’s go.
Wood River
May – October
A tributary to Agency Lake, which is connected to Klamath Lake, the Wood River is home to Brown Trout and Migratory Rainbows. Down and dirty streamer fishing produces best on this narrow intimate river lined with tulles, willows and deep undercut grassy banks. But don’t be distraught if you are a dry fly junkie – baetis, BWO, Mahogany Dunns and hopper actions is definitely there to be had.
Private Waters
May – October
Remote and secluded meandering meadow streams, summer grasses and flowers. No one else around. Brook, rainbow and bull trout ready to take dry flies. We have several private streams just like I’ve described. Bring your 0 to 3 weight rod. Hoppers and parachute adams wander up and down these catch and release only streams until hunger forces you to sit under a huge pine tree and eat lunch while taking in the surrounding beauty.
In addition to the above waters, we also offer guided trips on the Sprague River, Klamath River, Klamath and Agency Lakes, Rogue River for both Trout & Steelhead, and North Umpqua River for Steelhead.
